Signs You’re Drifting Away from God After Success

(Part 2 – Staying Humble When Success Comes)The higher you rise, the more you need to stay grounded in Him.

Introduction

Success is a blessing—but it’s also a test.A test to see if you’ll still hold God close when everything you once prayed for starts unfolding.

But what happens when that success becomes the very thing pulling you away from Him?Sometimes we drift, not by decision, but by distraction.

This blog helps you recognize the subtle signs that you're drifting away from God in your pursuit of success—and how to realign your heart.

1. You No Longer Prioritize Time with God

Remember when 30 minutes in the Word or prayer felt normal? Now, your time is filled with back-to-back tasks, deadlines, and meetings. God hasn’t moved, but maybe you have.

Drift Sign:You wake up and reach for your phone before you reach for God.

Scripture:"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."— Matthew 6:33

2. You Value Wealth Over Relationship

You begin to measure your worth by the numbers in your account rather than your nearness to God.But what is gained if your heart grows cold in the process?

Drift Sign:You now make time for clients, but not the Creator.

Scripture:"What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?"— Mark 8:36

3. Restlessness Becomes Your Companion

Even with all the wins, you can’t sleep in peace.Even with the answers, you can’t find solutions.Even with the progress, something still feels off.

Drift Sign:You’re doing well but feel empty and disconnected.

Scripture:"Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."— Matthew 11:28

4. You Avoid God's Presence Out of Guilt

You used to run to God—now you run from Him.Not because He changed, but because success made you comfortable, and comfort blurred your convictions.

Drift Sign:You feel “too distant” to pray… so you stop trying.

Scripture:"Return to Me, and I will return to you,” says the Lord Almighty."— Malachi 3:7

5. You Start Making Excuses

“I’m just busy.”“I’ll pray later.”“I’ll go back to church next week.”You begin replacing devotion with delay, and God becomes optional instead of essential.

Drift Sign:You justify spiritual neglect in the name of productivity.

Scripture:"Do not love the world or anything in the world... The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever."— 1 John 2:15, 17

Final Thoughts

Drifting doesn’t always look like rebellion—sometimes, it just looks like forgetting.

God doesn’t mind your success. In fact, He is the one who gave it.But never let what He gave you replace Him.

Success without God is a setup for restlessness. But success with God is a life of peace, purpose, and sustained elevation.

So pause.Reflect.And if you find you’ve drifted—come back. He’s not angry. He’s just waiting.

Reflection Question:Have you let your blessings distract you from the One who blessed you?

Prayer:Lord, bring my heart back to You. Remind me that everything I have is from You. Help me stay humble and close to Your presence, no matter how far I rise. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
